For Corporations

There are two venues that I have developed a workshop plan for, but have not had the opportunity to lead it. Perhaps someone reading this will have a connection to these institutions.

There is nothing like sharing stories to build community and I propose Family Stories through Art for Corporate Team-building. Contact me for details.

Course Outline for Collage Art/Family Stories in a Prison Setting

Because teachers cannot bring supplies into prisons, I have worked with volunteer coordinators and prison education staff to order a few core art materials (see resources.) This art first/writing model works for all levels of education and English language proficiency.

Goal: that each student enjoy the process of successfully creating a 6 page book (3 collages, 3 pages of text) that tells a beginning, middle and ending of a family or personal story of their choosing

Each class has three basic parts:

1. Modeling-either the collage process or writing to your art

2. Work Session-for beginners alternating between art and writing sessions

3. Sharing-participants have an opportunity share their art and orally rehearse their story, listeners get an opportunity to give positive feedback or ask questions if there is something they are unclear about. I always model positive feedback when we begin. Post-it notes can be helpful during this process if allowed. If I hear a student use an interesting word or phrase when talking about their art or story, I will jot it on a post-it note and give to them to keep in their folder so they have that when it comes time to write.
